Crazy JW Superstitions...

hey!

ok, we all know of this uncanny word play about not saying, "you were lucky," and not saying "bless you" after someone sneezes.

but this is a bizarre one i heard.

First, I have never been a Jehovah's Witness, and this really is a true story.

When we first moved into our house, there were some rather strange events, I kept feeling like someone was behind me, and seeing things move out of the corners of my eyes, felt "unseen" things brushing up against my legs, and my stepdaughter went to stay at a friends house one night when we were gone because she felt she wasn't alone in the house.

My husband is NO longer a witness, but he told me that according to THEIR religious beliefs, there are no such things as ghosts or spirits, but demons will "emulate" ghosts--humoring him, I asked how we could get rid of demons, and he said that according to JW belief, demons can not stand the name "Jehovah", and that they could be driven out by saying the name "Jehovah" 3 times out loud.

Then, one night, while still sleeping, my husband sat up in bed and started talking to someone who wasn't there, but he kept referring to a "red hat", and asking what he was doing in our bedroom. My stepdaughter then told me she had seen someone in a red hat also.

I really was freaked, and figured, what could it hurt? So after everyone had left the next day and I was alone in the house, I went into each room and said "Jehovah" loudly 3 times, and repeated the process in each room 3 times. I didn't tell my husband or stepdaughters I had done it either.

That ended the strange occurances...really, I'm not joking.

A QUESTION FOR GUYS

why do some guys feel the need to have sex with their ex-girlfriends?

is this a common thing?

how many of you guys did or do this?.

Yeah, it WOULD be great..if only one day I could convince him the JW religion is a cult, and get his JW parents (who still have this 'thing' for his EX) out of our lives for good......

...But I'm working on it!

Whenever I think of death I think of sex

if you were raised a jw didn't you fear that you would die during the great tribulation and never have sex for all eternity (since ressurrected people don't have sex, according to the wt)?

whenever i think of an early demise -- nuclear war, for instance -- my thoughts almost automatically turn to, "i want to have sex.

For those who know me i had the threat of impotence from bowel surgery(ulcerative colitis) thrown into my mix.I am a very complicated dynamic....
Listen up! When I finally had my first sexual experience with my first girlfriend at 46 y.o.I tell ya ,I could have gone through eternity without it.

Danny, your response absolutely FLOORED me.

I can understand that maybe as a result of your childhood illness, sex may not be that important to you.

I can't have children. But that doesn't mean I begrudge other people their happiness at finally discovering that they are pregnant, or get angry or resentful when they tell me how much joy they receive from their children. And I fully understand and appreciate how important their children are to them, and how much they love them, and couldn't imagine finding any meaning in life without them.

I love my husband and consider him my best friend too, but frankly, I'm not all that crazy about his obsession with guns, his hatred for the government, his campaign against "boom cars", or the baggage he brought with him from his JW upbringing, and all the CRAP I have to put up with from his family and ex-wife. If I just wanted a BEST FRIEND to live with, I've got BUNCHES of girlfriends and gay guy friends who don't get BORED when I talk about my career, who understand my competitive nature better, and enjoy shopping and gossiping just as much as I do!

My husband and I got together because of sexual attraction, and I'm sorry, but I honestly doubt that without it, we'd be together today.

I will try to understand that sex may not be that important to you, if you will try to understand that to many of us, well, it just is.

Are JW teaching the truth??? Do JW's know the truth???

i recently became interested in the jw, when a classmate of mine in college, told me he was a jw, and how it changed his life.

i didnt know much about it, and asked him questions about his faith, and what it meant, and where it came from?

and i was surprised at the answers he gave me, and became very interested, and wanted to learn more.. after asking him questions off, and on, for a period of time, i decided to go to the web, and find out more.

There only seems to be a few differences in the way the WTBTS bible varies from other interpretations . The main difference is they attempted to restore the name jehovah to it's place in the bible and they refuted the scriptures that they believe were added in to support the trinity doctrine.

The problem is not the Jehovah Witness's TRANSLATION of the bible but their INTERPRETATION of the passages--and how those passages were meant to be applied and followed by Christians.

To me, the bible stands on its own and I can read it without the need for anyone else to "interprete" what it "means" for me. The bible does that just fine all by itself!

If you read the bible cover to cover and take it as a WHOLE, I think you will walk away with a much different impression.

I believe the Jehovah's Witnesses pick the passages of of their choosing, take them out of context and apply them in ways never intended--and by doing so, change the meaning, and make it "fit" what THEY want it to be. All organized religions do that.

This is why I believe NOT teaching the truth, nor do they know the truth,

However, in response to the poster who replied "No and no".

I think that's wrong, and that the correct answer is... Hell NO, and No F##king Way!

books to explain the bible

if the bible is really the word of god, and complete.... it seems to me that any organization, whether it be wt or christian research institute or a host of others..... by making books to explain" the bible to anyone, is basically saying that the all wise, all knowing god, the creator of all,.

really didn't write his book correctly, needs their help, is basically out of touch with humanity and wrote a book in code that.

needs human intervention to interpret..... the book itself claims to be complete and the only things necessary, and further claims that the spirit of god would be given to .

Oh, I happen to agree and have always maintained that for my own religious beliefs, the bible is the only book I need to read.

So that's what I do.

Funny, but I don't find it in the least bit confusing and have no need for anyone to clarify anything in it for me.

It stands alone on it's own just fine.

Satan has got you where he wants, alone, coping with all this by yourself, did he give you what you wanted last time you did things "his" way.

Satan's not the one who's got you coping with all this by yourself--the Jehovah's Witnesses did! They're the ones who "disfellowshipped you, aren't they?

Refusing to accept responsibility for their actions, and blaming it on Satan, typical.

Now you REALLY sound like my husband because you have the SAME sense of humor--and it would be just like him to come here just to screw with my head....

and he's my network administrator, so he knows exactly where I go on the internet!

I'm the one who lacks a sense of humor--according to him, I lost it right after I passed the CPA exam.

So maybe I don't have EVERYTHING he could possibly ask for in a wife,

But he also only has to work now when he's in the general mood because I earn more than enough for the both of us

So it's a trade off he says he can live with...

IN LOVE & CONFUSED

here is my dilemma - short and to the point, need advice.

i met a man several months ago who is jw and we hit it off from the first night we met - (met in lounge) - and then spoke to him on a few occasions.

he admitted to me the first night we went out that he was married, at first i wasn't sure if i should pursue this, then he just swept me off my feet.

Yes, this isn't right, but you know what LIfe is too short - If I died tomorrow - would I have any regrets? ABSOLUTELY NOT.....

Yes, I've always said that I'd rather regret the things I did than the things I didn't do.

But I also draw the line at dating married or attached men.

Please understand that the reason so many on this board are telling you this same thing is because most of us have personally witnessed the results, which SUCK pretty much every time.

I also met my current husband just shortly after I left my first husband--and shortly after his wife had thrown him out of their house--for another man...but regardless, I refused to date him for a year, until long after his divorce was finalized and I was SURE there was nothing between them and no possibility of reconciliation. I didn't do that for him or her, I did that for ME!

It has nothing to do with love, it's self-respect, and you get what you give.

Need Advice

i am going to try to make this short.. i have a best friend who is a faded jw (not df'd, just inactive and attends meetings infrequently).

i have been friends with her since we were toddlers so i know her pretty well.

she was in a 20 year marriage with a jw who also happened to be a drug addict and abuser, etc.

I think your friend's right. Friends are for support, not judgement and we all need to make our OWN mistakes in life.

I actually DO know couples whose marriages have survived infidelity and have gone on to grow and thrive.

As far as him not treating his stepkids well? Well, I have 2 stepdaughters myself who I love and adore, but being as I have on-going problems with my husband's ex, I've been involved in several support groups for second wives and "blended" families for years, and a lot of people have dificulties with stepchildren--fault can go both ways, and you might want to think about reserving judgement until you've heard his side.

Regardless, even if you know she's making a mistake, it's hers to make, and as her friend, your place is to be there to provide comfort and support in the aftermath--BEST friends can also resist saying, "I told you so."
